Decolonizing American Art Roundtable

Professor Charlene Villaseñor Black, Terra Visiting Professor of American Art 2021-22 will be chairing an online roundtable, which will be open to all to attend. 

The event addresses current issues in curating and exhibiting “American” art. What are the various challenges? What strategies can we use to diversify American art, more fully recognizing art produced by various minoritized communities? What are the advantages of a hemispheric approach that situates American art within the wider context of the Americas? How should we approach chronology or temporality? Can we decolonize the exhibition of American art?

The roundtable will be held online via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 23 June 2022, 4pm-7pm, GMT Time.
