New Power Symposium

An international symposium was held at the Weston Library, Oxford, on March 18 2023 in conjunction with Geoffrey Batchen’s two exhibitions about early British photography.

Speakers included Geoff Batchen, Mirjam Brusius, Steve Edwards, David Campany, Michael Pritchard, Elisa deCourcy, Sean Willcock, and Chitra Ramalingam, as well as four doctoral students: Rose Teanby and Francesca Strobino from De Monfort University and Olena Chervonik and Fionn Montell-Boyd from the University of Oxford. Alastair Wright and Cora Gilroy-Ware from the Department of History of Art also participated as moderators. All agreed that the day was an intense and stimulating experience, covering a wide range of scholarship about photography’s first fifty years.
