The Department of the History of Art, which operates as part of the Faculty of History, offers full-time and part-time advanced research degrees (M.Litt. and D.Phil.) in a broad range of fields within the discipline of art history and visual culture. In addition to the research areas covered by the core members of the Department, supervision in areas covered by the large number of associated academic staff may be available. It is also possible to view lists of current and past thesis topics (see right).

Students applying for Research Degrees in History of Art should have successfully completed a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area by the time of admission.
